Episode 54: Mirroring In Trauma: Mastering How You Hold & Guide Others

"When someone mirrors you and does what you do, then that means that they had to have seen you. And so it's a way of letting them experience that again, without you even having to talk and repeat what they said and do all this other work to connect with them. Just by the simple act of doing the exact same thing that they just did. You have just had them experience being seen."
~Dr. Aimie Apigian

Show Notes:

How do you use mirroring when wanting to hold the container for someone to safely go into their freeze response for healing?

This is the question that I answer in today’s Biology of Trauma® Podcast. This episode is an excerpt from one of my professional development trainings for those who become mentors and lead the breakout groups in the foundational journey.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

  • How mirroring is a more powerful tool than words to communicate, “I see you”
  • How not to lose yourself when mirroring others
  • Different types of mirroring you can learn
  • The concept of reverse mirroring
  • How to help someone feel safe when guiding them into and through the freeze
